Week in Review – October 13, 2017

You guys…I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am that it’s Friday. I know that it was a short week, but our trip last weekend really through me off – for nutrition, sleep, and productivity.

I’m getting ready to go to dinner, so let’s get this recap started!!

Workouts

Tomorrow’s 9-mile maintenance run stands between me and the conclusion of Dopey Challenge training week #19. I can’t believe that next week is #20!

  • Friday: 15 miles around the neighborhood
  • Saturday: Rest day!
  • Sunday: Rest day!
  • Monday: 40 minutes on the exercise bike at home (we finally got this back from Steve’s parents!) and some arm and leg exercises
  • Tuesday: 3 miles around the neighborhood
  • Wednesday: 6 miles on the treadmill at the gym
  • Thursday: 3 miles on the treadmill at the gym

This morning, I did 25 minutes on the elliptical and some leg exercises. I’m definitely starting to feel the higher mileage in my legs now…which means more stretching and foam rolling for this girl!

Experiences

As I mentioned last week, Steve and I went to Erie to visit his cousin at college last weekend. The drive was LONNNNNG, but we had a blast! We visited the zoo, the mall, local wineries and breweries, and some fun restaurants along the lake. See my photos below!

YES, that is a kangaroo petting exhibit…I WAS IN HEAVEN!

My other favorite experience for the week was my long run. I felt great the entire run, even though it was SO HUMID!

Not sure why Thad feels the need to make such weird faces in my photos…

Books:

Again…I was busy at both work and home, so no reading this week. I need to get my butt in gear though if I plan to finish the Harry Potter series before my trip!

Food:

Nothing really stands out for me. I’m guessing our dinner tonight will be the highlight of the week – we are going to Home 231, which is supposed to be PHENOMENAL – so I’ll keep you all posted next week!

Anything Exciting Happening Next Week?

YES! Two of my best friends who live several states away are coming home! I CANNOT WAIT! My blog posts may be sporadic or late next week since I’ll want to visit with my friends when I’m not working. I’ll definitely fill you all in after they leave though!

Week in Review – October 6, 2017

Another Friday…another week in review….

BUT, I took off today, so I’m a happy camper 🙂 Let’s get this recap and LONG weekend started!

Workouts

And, with the conclusion of my long run today, Dopey Challenge training week #18 is done. Less than 13 weeks to go! I can’t believe that we are under the 90-day mark. This is absolutely insane!

  • Friday: 15 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the bike at the gym
  • Saturday: 8-mile run around the neighborhood
  • Sunday: Rest day!
  • Monday: 3-mile run around the neighborhood
  • Tuesday: 6 miles around the neighborhood and some arm exercises
  • Wednesday: 20 minutes on the bike and some leg exercises
  • Thursday: 5 miles around the neighborhood and some arm exercises

I already did my 15-mile training run this morning. We are traveling again this weekend, so I wanted to make sure that I got the run in before we leave (later today). The run went well, but it was rather humid. I’m happy that I started so early!

Experiences

Although I didn’t take any photos this week/weekend (sorry about that), Steve and I had a VERY productive week. We cleaned the house and our washer, and we went shopping for a new wardrobe for Steve (which was my favorite experience this week)! We had so much fun at the outlets on Saturday. Steve got some great deals, including a suit, business casual pants, dress shirts, and golf pants.

Of course, because we were there already, I looked on the clearance racks and found some great deals for myself! I’ll be sure to share these items in another blog post (they are currently in the wash).

Books:

So…..are we surprised that I didn’t start the fifth Harry Potter book yet? 🙂 I was incredibly busy at work and home, so this fell to the bottom of my weekly to-do list.

Food:

Steve and I made fajitas (without the tortillas) this week, and it was AMAZING and very simple! We took grilled chicken, mixed in some fajita mix, and sautéed it with some peppers and onions. While we ate this plain (in a bowl), I enjoyed the leftovers over my salad at work yesterday…YUM! Again, I’m sorry that I slacked on the pictures this week. We will definitely be making this again, so I’ll be sure to take photos and share them in a future recipe post!

Anything Exciting Happening Next Week?

Like I said earlier, we are traveling again this weekend. Later today, we will be heading up to Erie, PA to visit Steve’s cousin at college. We’ve never been to Erie, so we’re excited to explore all that there is to do. I’m hoping that we can visit the zoo, but I’m sure that we will have fun with whatever we decide to do.

September Goals Recap and October Goals

Hi, friends! It’s October, my favorite month for so many reasons! I absolutely love fall and Halloween, and I got married in October of last year.

At the beginning of each month, I like to sit down and reflect on the previous month and make a list of goals to achieve during the new month. September was a great month, and I really got a lot accomplished, although I traveled a ton and got sick towards the end!

It was another month of fantastic experiences, and my training runs went so well!

Now that it’s the beginning of October, I wanted to recap my progress on my September goals. So…how did I do?

  • Lose two pounds. I did it!!! Even with all of our traveling (and the amazing food that comes with that), I was able to lose 3 pounds! Only 9 more to go until my new goal weight!
  • Continue training for Dopey. My training has been going so well so far! I’ve had to alter my training plan a lot recently with our schedules being so out of whack, but I’ve stuck to it!
  • Continue working on my Dopey Challenge costumes. I purchased spandex running shorts and two tank tops. Only a few more items to go until I’m done!
  • Start painting the house. This honestly did not happen this month. We did set a date for painting though, which is a step in the right direction!
  • Finish Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I FINISHED HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE this month! Finally! I absolutely loved it! Now, because it took almost the entire month to finish, I have not had a chance to start Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I’m hoping to start that this weekend.

So, overall, I accomplished 3.5/5 goals…I’m giving myself half of a point for finishing one of the books. That’s better than I’ve done in the last few months, so I’ll take it!

Now that October is underway and I’ve evaluated my September goals, I’ve come up with a list of 5 goals that I’d like to achieve before the beginning of November.

My 2017 October goals are:

  1. Lose two pounds. I’m hoping to be down another 2 pounds by the end of the month. I think that with my intense training schedule this month, this should be doable.
  2. Continue training for Dopey. I can’t quit now! I only have 3 more months!
  3. Continue working on my Dopey Challenge costumes. I’d like to finish my purchases and come up with a plan for the creative aspects (Dalmatian spots and pizza planet logo) by the end of the month.
  4. Prepare the house for painting. Steve and I have to purchase all painting materials this month before we paint on Nov. 4-5. I think that we can definitely do this!
  5. Finish all Harry Potter books before my trip to WDW. These books are getting longer and longer. I think if I can finish them before my trip in January, I will be happy. Let’s see if I can do it!

So, there you have it: my goals for the month of October. I’m looking forward to recapping and reflecting on these goals next month! See you then!

Week in Review – September 29, 2017

You guys…I apologize for being absent all week! I caught a pretty nasty cold over the weekend (as you may recall from my last post), so I spent every free minute laying around, trying to get better! I’m feeling MUCH better today, so I promise that I will be back to normal blogging next week!

All of that being said, this week was a little rough and rather boring, so I’ll be sure to keep this recap short.

Workouts

I have one more run before I finish Dopey Challenge training week #17. Seventeen weeks – that’s insane! My body felt slightly better this week because we took the weekend off from traveling. I was able to focus on my workouts and get them done without any problems…well lower body problems…breathing was difficult with my cold.

  • Friday: 4-mile run around the neighborhood
  • Saturday: 14 miles around the neighborhood – and I felt fantastic the entire time! The miles literally flew by…with the help of several RunDisney podcasts and my Disney running playlist of course 🙂
  • Sunday: Rest day!
  • Monday: 15 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the exercise bike at the gym
  • Tuesday: 3 miles around the neighborhood and some arm exercises
  • Wednesday: 6 miles around the neighborhood…this one was a bit rough…this was the peak of my cold and it was incredibly humid outside. I honestly thought about quitting after  1.2, but I kept going. And, I’m so glad that I did!
  • Thursday: 3 miles around the neighborhood and some arm exercises

I plan to do the elliptical and bike at the gym again tomorrow, and then I have an 8-mile maintenance run tomorrow morning. I’m definitely going to take that run VERY slowly and treat it as a shakeout run from the week prior. I think my legs really need the break from my normal pace, as do my lungs.

Experiences

Just one favorite experience for me this week….this little guy was trying his hardest to get me to stay home Saturday and NOT do my 14-mile run. He cuddled with me for a few minutes in the morning and then followed me around the house as I got ready. AND, he made the saddest, sweetest face…

I mean come on…just look at that sweet face 🙂

Books:

I FINALLY FINISHED THE FOURTH BOOK THIS WEEK! But, because I was sick, I have not started the 5th book yet. Steve will be playing golf all day Sunday, so I may take the dog out on our deck and get through some of it then!

Food:

Do Dayquil and NyQuil count?

Anything Exciting Happening Next Week?

After our workouts tomorrow, Steve and I will be going shopping! Steve recently lost 35 pounds, and he’s in need of some staples until he reaches his goal weight. His old clothes just aren’t cutting it anymore. He’s so motivated, and he’s really helping me to stay on track as well. I love it!

And…I’m back in the groove! I managed to get back on my regular blogging schedule this week, and Steve and I got back into our healthy eating kick. It’s been great!

Workouts

Dopey Challenge training week #16 is almost complete. And, let me tell you, it’s been tough. My body has definitely taken a toll from traveling three weekends in a row, and I feel like I’m starting to get sick. But, I still managed to complete all of my runs thus far!

  • Friday: 7-mile run around the neighborhood
  • Saturday: Rest day! But, I did a lot of walking throughout the city of Pittsburgh.
  • Sunday: Rest day!
  • Monday: 3-mile run on the treadmill at the gym and some arm exercises
  • Tuesday: 5 miles around the neighborhood and some leg exercises
  • Wednesday: 3 miles around the neighborhood and some arm exercises
  • Thursday: 20 minutes on the exercise bike and some leg exercises

I have a 4-mile run this morning and then a 14-mile training run tomorrow morning. I plan to wake up rather early to complete this training run since it’s been so hot here. Fall, where are you?!

🙂 I’m just going to leave a smiley face here….if you follow my blog at all, you’ll know what that means….

Food:

I’ve basically been living off of Emergen-C this week because I’ve been battling a cold. Let’s hope I can keep it at bay!

BUT, last week, Steve and I went to Bonefish Grill for dinner, and I had this incredible pineapple martini. Not only was it delicious, but it was also SO PRETTY!

Anything Exciting Happening Next Week?

Steve and I will be going out for a “date night” tonight at Brewvino, a local pizza restaurant, because I have to carbload for my long run tomorrow. The food is delicious, and we haven’t been there in a very long time. Needless to say, we are very excited.

Also, Steve and I will be visiting my grandparents (both sets) on Sunday. We live about 2 hours away from them, so I’m very excited when we can make the time to go and see them.

WDW Marathon Weekend: Medals Revealed!

img_9576.jpg

Photos courtesy of RunDisney’s Instagram page

YOU GUYS, OH MY GOSH?!?!?! Today, RunDisney revealed the 25th anniversary WDW Marathon Weekend medals, and THEY ARE GORGEOUS! I’ve never been so in love with a set of RunDisney medals, and I’m so excited to make all of them mine. 🙂 Seriously though, how great are these?!

I know that this is a short post, but I’ll be back soon with updates on all things Dopey Challenge. Stay tuned, and, in the mean time, stare at these beauties some more!

Another Half Marathon?!

Yep…you read that right…I signed up for yet another half marathon. What?!

This time, I’ll be competing in the Gettysburg Blue-Gray Half Marathon on Oct. 22. Yes, I’m still in the midst of training for my very first Dopey Challenge in January 2018, but I really wanted to find a way to break up some of my longer training runs in the middle of the cycle.

A few weeks back, I was searching for half marathons that occurred on the same days as my long runs this fall/winter. The only one that fit this requirement in my area was the Blue-Gray Half Marathon. And, I actually did this race in 2014 – which was a bonus!

IMG_3240IMG_3235

This race occurs on the same day as my 16-mile training run in late October. My plan for the day is simple: run 2.9 miles at home and then head to Gettysburg for the race and take it EASY. No PRs and no competing for prizes. I honestly am going to treat this race like a RunDisney race, using an easy pace and truly taking it all in. Fall in Pennsylvania is absolutely beautiful, and this race takes you on a scenic wooded tour of the town of Gettysburg and the historic Gettysburg Battlefield, so I don’t want to miss out!

While I’m not setting any goals, I’m still going to treat this as a serious training run, with the proper fueling, water and intervals. I don’t want to mess with a good thing!

I am VERY excited for this race! I had such a great time back in 2014, and it looks like the race coordinator has made a ton of updates since then, including more race time on the battlefield and a post-race beer garden. How cool is that?!

If any of you are planning on running this race, let’s chat! I’d love to meet you 🙂

Week in Review – September 15, 2017

Yikes, guys…I honestly have no idea where this week went. My boss was off all week, so I have been busy at work, and Steve and I have had appointments almost every day after work. Good news is that we got everything done…bad news is that I didn’t get to blog at all. I’m sorry about that!

But, because it’s Friday, let’s get this recap started!

Workouts

Dopey Challenge training week #15 is complete! Because I will be traveling for yet another Pitt football game this weekend, I was forced to get my training runs done earlier again! See what I changed below:

  • Friday: 13 miles around the neighborhood
  • Saturday: Rest day! But, I did a lot of walking in State College!
  • Sunday: I took another rest day here, and I really needed it!
  • Monday: 3-mile run on the treadmill at the gym
  • Tuesday: 5 miles around the neighborhood
  • Wednesday: 3 miles around the neighborhood
  • Thursday: 20 minutes on the exercise bike at the gym and some leg exercises

So that I don’t have to wake up at 2 a.m. tomorrow morning, I decided to do my 7-mile run this morning. It went pretty well, even though it was super humid! I plan on taking a rest day tomorrow and doing either 30 minutes of walking or elliptical work at the gym at our hotel in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Happy Friday!

Let’s get this recap started!

Workouts

Dopey Challenge training week #14 is complete! Because I will be traveling for the Penn State vs. Pitt football game this weekend, I got my training runs done earlier!

  • Friday: 30 minutes on the elliptical at the gym and some leg exercises
  • Saturday: Rest day! But, I did a lot of walking throughout the city of Pittsburgh.
  • Sunday: 3-mile run on the treadmill at the gym (we were still in Pittsburgh, so this was the gym in our friends’ apartment)
  • Monday: 5-mile run on the treadmill at the gym (we were still in Pittsburgh)
  • Tuesday: 3 miles on the treadmill at the gym (at home) and some arm and ab exercises
  • Wednesday: 20 minutes on the elliptical at the gym and some leg exercises
  • Thursday: 3 miles around the neighborhood and some arm and ab exercises

Again, because we have plans this weekend, I will be completing my 13-mile training run this morning. I had to work late one day earlier this week, so I don’t need to be at work until 10:30 today. Plenty of time to run! It’s been a busy first week of “official training,” but I’m getting all of my runs complete AND I’m feeling great!

As I mentioned before, we went to Pittsburgh last weekend to show off our alma mater to my baby sister. She loved it, and we had a great time with our friends. You guys, I’m almost done with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! I should finish it this weekend! FOR REAL THIS TIME!

We had TONS of food in Pittsburgh last weekend…enough said.

Anything Exciting Happening Next Week?

Steve and I will be heading to his cabin this weekend (which is roughly 20 minutes away from State College). We will be going to the Pitt vs. Penn State game tomorrow, and we are both very excited for the rivalry to continue! H2P!

August Goals Recap and September Goals

Hi, friends! How can it possibly already be September?

At the beginning of each month, I like to sit down and reflect on the previous month and make a list of goals to achieve during the new month. August was a great month, and I really got a lot accomplished!

I had a lot of fantastic experiences, and my training was on point!

Now that it’s the beginning of September, I wanted to recap my progress on my August goals. So…how did I do?

  • Lose 4 pounds. Yikes. I didn’t quite achieve this goal. I did, however lose two pounds, so I can’t be too mad at myself! I’m assuming this has something to do with my training. I’ve been doing some strength training, so that may be helping me to add muscle (and not necessarily lose weight).
  • Continue training for Dopey. Check! I’m so proud of myself for how well I’ve been doing here. I’m motivated and I WILL NOT quit!
  • Start my Dopey Challenge costumes. Check! I made a lot of purchases for my costumes in August. I only have to buy a red visor, blue Sparkle Athletic skirt, two tank tops (blue and white), and some fabric paint. The rest is DONE!
  • Start my last few home projects. While we didn’t start our painting project (it was honestly too hot to leave the windows open), we still do hope to finish it by the end of September. We did, however, hang our new lights in the dining room and kitchen – so that’s a start!
  • Finish Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. And…another blogger fail….I still didn’t finish this book yet. My coworkers and I have started to do puzzles during our lunch breaks, so I haven’t really been reading a lot over the last few weeks. I only have about 50 pages left, so I plan to finish it this weekend on the way to our cabin (more on that later).

So, overall, I accomplished 3/5 goals…not too shabby…but not perfect!

Now that September is underway and I’ve evaluated my August goals, I’ve come up with a list of 5 goals that I’d like to achieve before the beginning of October.

My 2017 September goals are:

  1. Lose two pounds. I’m lowering my expectations for September – I’m only hoping to lose two pounds. I think I’ve been stressing myself out too much with this, and I don’t want to lose focus on training in the process.
  2. Continue training for Dopey. I just started my official training this week (with the Hal Higdon plan), so I’m determined to keep going!
  3. Continue working on my Dopey Challenge costumes. I’d like to at least make a few more purchases (if not finish them) by the end of the month, which I think is very doable.
  4. Start painting the house. Steve and I are hoping to start the painting process in a few weeks. We have to paint almost the entire house, so we know that this will take a while…likely more than a month.
  5. Finish Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This is definitely going to happen this month! Mark my words!

So, there you have it: my goals for the month of September. I’m looking forward to recapping and reflecting on these goals next month! See you then!

What are your goals for September?
